SATURDAY AUGUST 14TH:::: THE DRUMS INSIDE YOUR CHEST IS BACK FOR IT'S 4TH YEAR!!

For the last 4 years, an incredible group of folks have worked their lumps off to create a non-traditional, non-yawnable, completely unique poetry show experience.  Something that showcases different types of powerful writers and performers from all over the country on one stage, for one evening only in Los Angeles.  A show that cannot be put into a genre.

Patricia Smith is a 4 time Individual Slam Poetry Champion, Pushcart Prize winner and nominee of the National Book Award.  One of the most incredible writers and stage performers alive today.

Anis Mojgani is a 2 time Individual Slam Poetry Champion, nominee of the pushcart Prize and member of the well know Poetry Revival. 

C.R. Avery is a musical mastermind, blending everything from hip hop to poetry to Rock n Roll. 

Christin O'Keefe Aptowicz is the author of 5 books of poetry, including Everything is Everything and is one of the poetry world's strongest stage presences. 

Rob Sturma is the author of the acclaimed debut book of poems, Miles of Hallelujah

Poetry Concert Film THE DRUMS INSIDE YOUR CHEST Opens San Francisco DocFest 2009

SAN FRANCISCO – Sept 23rd, 2009 – THE DRUMS INSIDE YOUR CHEST will screen opening night of the 2009 SF DocFest at the Roxie Theater (3117 16th Street) on Friday, Oct 16, 9:15 p.m., with an encore screening on Saturday, Oct 17, 2:30 p.m. Tickets for each screening are $11.00. 

THE DRUMS INSIDE YOUR CHEST is a genre-defining performance poetry concert film offering a raucous new vision of contemporary poetry from some of the most unique young voices in America. Inspired by the spontaneity and energy of rock concert films, it is at turns spine tingling, heart wrenching, gut funny and seriously profound.

DRUMS is the debut film from Rebel Asylum, the Los Angeles-based production company of Independent Spirit Award, Emmy® & Golden Globe® nominated actress Amber Tamblyn (SISTERHOOD OF THE TRAVELING PANTS, JOAN OF ARCADIA).

Tamblyn is featured in the film alongside Beau Sia (SLAMNATION, DEF POETRY JAM); Buddy Wakefield (Individual World Poetry SLAM Champion); Derrick Brown; Mindy Nettifee; Rob Zabrecky, Jeffrey McDaniel and San Francisco poet & comedian Bucky Sinister. Together these poets and performers embody a new collaborative spirit that seeks to move hearts and raise the status of American performance poetry.

“The DRUMS concert film documents the inaugural show of what is now an annual series showcasing the best performance poetry talent out there,” said Executive Producer Amber Tamblyn. “The DocFest screenings give us the opportunity to introduce DRUMS to San Francisco audiences and to announce the launch of online film distribution for poetry fans throughout the world.”

Amber Tamblyn, Bucky Sinister and director Stephen Latty will attend the opening night screening, which will be followed by a Q&A, live performances and a book signing to celebrate Tamblyn’s new volume of poetry Bang Ditto (Manic D Press).
